.
Once upon a time...
There was an Art Gallery called the Art Galia. This was a magical place where children came to explore visual art, and they discovered their talents and unique creativity through fun and imaginative projects.
This summer, enter this marvelous place and explore the exciting and adventurous worlds of the most dynamic and visually stunning local artists’ paintings.
Enter an enchanted world of art. Explore a world where everything you touch turns to masterpiece and see what you can make! Reinterpret or write your very own fairy tale adventure! Create magical, artistic and lasting memories this summer!
Summer campers will develop their creative skills through visual art activities.
Come and experience a summer you'll never forget!
The summer months are a great time to try a new artistic adventure.
Day one
This course is for students who enjoy the details. Using a variety of materials, including an assortment of paint, pencils, pastels and papers, to create preliminary landscape sketches the class will revisit these sketches in the studio to arrive at a completed landscape painting
Day Two
While experimenting with an exciting variety of the artist's tools, media and techniques, students will learn to explore and trust their imaginations and creative instincts. Working from still life, photographs and images from art history, students will be introduced to drawing and painting fundamentals and techniques. These include line, value, shape, pattern, texture, shading, highlighting, colour perspective and collage. Young artists will further develop their artistic skills while discovering their own personal style.
Day Three
Creating a unique and personal piece of art will be the highlight of this artistic experience. Through the use of painting, photography, mixed media and a wide array of art materials, students are encouraged to explore and experiment using a canvas beyond the basic, 2-dimensional art form. You will design your concept on paper, bring in personal items, and use an exciting combination of art materials to create a highly personalized creation. Ideas are sparked into action through colour-mixing, layering and assembling. You will become aware of the limitless choices available to you in the creative process while creating a piece of art all about you!
Day Four
If you love graphic novels or if you doodle and draw every chance you get, then this day is perfect for you. Students will begin to design and create their very own graphic novel, while they explore and develop their creative and technical abilities. Through the use of pencil, pen, brush and ink, acrylic paint, scratchboard and more, students will draw amazing illustrations and create the concepts for storyboards inspired by a character that they develop. Inspiration will also be taken from pop art, graffiti, popular comic books and novels, as well as music, movies, and video games.
Pop art is one of the major art movements of the twentieth century. This fun and eye-catching art form is characterized by utilizing popular images and icons and by incorporating themes, techniques and subject matter from comic books, advertising and product packaging. In this unique workshop, students will explore the works of famous Pop artists, like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein to create their own Pop Art that reflects ideas from today's popular culture.
Explore the fun and creative medium of clay! This course is perfect for young artists who like to create using lots of texture and materials. Clay sculptors will develop and refine a variety of hand-building techniques: pinching, coiling, slab construction and modeling. During the course of the week, students will put the finishing touches on their clay pieces, incorporating their own designs and patterns. No previous experience is necessary.
Explore the versatility of paper, fabric and string, students will create collage-based and fabric inspired art. Designed to introduce students to basic printmaking, papermaking, paper craft, fibre arts, and sewing techniques, students will create projects that take them through the various steps and the creative process of innovative art making.
The last day is reserved for finishing up previous projects and putting the last touches on finished works. Explore the therapeutic qualities of art and finish what was started in classes prior!
Classes are subject to change in revision of class age-group and skill level.
